What you get with a custom coloring poster

Using the converter directly on this page, you choose your photo from your phone or computer, switch between Simple, Medium, and Detailed line presets, and optionally check Thicker lines for bolder contours.

Your live preview updates right in your browser inside a frame matched to your chosen poster dimensions. We fit your entire drawing onto a crisp white background so nothing is cropped from the edges of your photo. When you add the poster to your cart, we render a 300 DPI print file sized specifically for your selected poster dimensions and send it to Printful for printing.

Paper specifications and what to color it with

Each poster is printed on Printful’s Enhanced Matte Paper Poster (in) stock, a thick matte paper sourced from Japan with no glare:

• Paper weight: 189 g/m² (heavier than standard office copy paper, giving a sturdy feel on a table or easel).
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil (0.26 mm).
• Opacity and brightness: 94% opacity and 104% ISO brightness for a clean white coloring surface.
• Unframed: the poster arrives without a frame; every size matches a standard US frame size.

Because the surface is matte rather than glossy, dry media work best:

• Colored pencils and wax crayons: Layer and blend smoothly across the matte paper fibers without skidding.
• Felt-tip markers and fineliners: Use a light touch and let each area dry; heavy, wet coloring can ripple poster paper.
• Gel pens and pastels: Fine for details and soft shading. Alcohol markers can bleed through, so put scrap paper underneath.

All four sizes correspond to standard off-the-shelf frame dimensions:

• 8″×10″ — $18: A compact tabletop or desk frame size suited for single pet portraits and kids’ afternoon projects.
• 11″×14″ — $22: A versatile medium format that fits kitchen command centers, bedrooms, and hallway frames.
• 12″×16″ — $25: A spacious rectangular sheet with room for two people or a detailed pet pose.
• 18″×24″ — $32: A large wall poster built for family activity tables, birthday coloring stations, or classroom group projects.

Which photos work best

Line conversion traces light-to-dark edges in your picture. You will get the cleanest coloring poster when your photo has:

• One clear subject: A close-up of a dog or cat, a single portrait, a car, or the front of a house gives clear, open spaces to fill with color.
• A plain background: Open grass, a blank wall, sky, or a simple floor keeps the outline focused on your subject. Busy photos make busy pages—patterned rugs, leafy bushes, or crowded rooms turn into extra background lines.
• Good, even light: Natural daylight or bright indoor lighting without heavy shadows across faces or fur helps the converter find clean contours.
